Welcome to Argleton
A small village with a long memory
Stone lanes, open fields and the dark green edge of the woods: Argleton is an easy place to lose an afternoon and a difficult place to forget.
The visitor office has collected the stories and practical notes most often requested by newcomers. Begin with the castle above the village, follow the old mill walk, and finish at the Muddy Field with dry socks and a warm meal.
From the visitor desk
The castle grounds and the eastern woodland paths can be slippery after rain. Please use the marked routes, respect closed gates and take a torch if your return might be after dusk. A paper village leaflet is available at the parish hall.
From the parish noticeboard
The summer green fair supports the hall roof fund. The last camping weekend of August is organised by the walking group; lanterns return to the hall on Monday, preferably with their glass intact.
Visitor notes compiled by Ruth Mercer, parish volunteer.
